Did you know that: “70% of teens who have abused Rx Drugs took them from friends or family?”

Dr. Drew Pinsky and the Rx Locker

To combat this growing problem, Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of Celebrity Rehab and Loveline, designed The Rx Locker, a locking storage device designed to hold up to 4 prescription pill bottles and still fit inside a standard medicine cabinet. It’s a unique unit made to secure prescription medications so as to restrict unauthorized access and prevent abuse.

Rx Abuse and Accidental Ingestion

Teens aren’t the only ones suffering by unrestricted access to prescription pills. Young children and preteens can accidentally find and ingest medications…and even a small dose of an adult’s prescription can be deadly for a child. Statistics from National Poison Prevention Week show that each year accidental poisonings from unsecured medicines and household chemicals kill about 30 children, and prompt more than 1 million calls to poison control centers nationally.

We must do something about this to protect our loved ones! “Together through education and awareness, we can help protect kids and save lives.”– Dr Drew Pinsky

Protect your family with the Safe and Secure Rx Locker:

Securely Stores 4 Pill Bottles

Chrome Metal Combo Lock

Easily Fits Inside Your Medicine Cabinet

Keeps Your Medications Private

Safeguard your family for just $14.95 (plus $3.95 S&H) and order your Rx Locker today!

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ — Due to the rising statistics about teens and prescription drug abuse, Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of Celebrity Rehab and Loveline, recently debuted the Rx Locker, a device designed to secure prescription medications within the home to restrict unauthorized access and prevent abuse.

Prescription drug abuse among teens in the United States has become an increasing national concern. The Office of the National Drug Control Policy indicated that everyday, 2,500 teenagers, ages 12-17, will abuse Rx medication for the first time. Access to prescription medications like Vicodin and OxyContin is often far too easy. 70% of teens who abused say they got the prescription drugs from family and friends (National Survey on Drug Use and Health).

To combat this growing problem Dr. Drew and his team designed The Rx Locker, a locking storage device designed to hold up to 4 prescription pill bottles and still fit inside a standard medicine cabinet. A chromed metal combination lock provides convenient access for the user while ensuring secure storage and privacy. The Rx Locker is available now at www.RxLocker.com.

Dr. Drew recently spoke to about the issue of prescription drug abuse among teens when he visited The Bonnie Hunt Show.

“All too often the medication prescribed by a doctor to parents and grandparents are being accessed by their kids. We need to keep these medications locked up and send a message to our children that they are potentially dangerous. Locking up Rx medications is the only way to ensure that their access will be restricted only to those with prescriptions. However, a practical, affordable and simple solution to this ever-increasing problem has not existed until now,” explains Dr. Drew.

Teens aren’t the only ones being hurt by the unfettered access to prescription pills. Young children can accidentally find and ingest medications where even a small dose can be deadly. According to National Poison Prevention Week, each year unintentional poisonings from medicines and household chemicals kill about 30 children and prompt more than 1 million calls to the nation’s poison control centers.

Dr. Drew Pinsky is a practicing Medical Doctor, board certified in internal and addiction medicine. He is also the executive producer and host of several television series including “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” “Sober House” and “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew” as well as the host of the nationally syndicated radio show “Loveline.” He is the author of ‘Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together Again, When Painkillers Become Dangerous’ and the New York Times bestseller ‘The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America.’ For more information about Dr. Drew please visit www.DrDrew.com.

Prescription medication and drug abuse is a serious problem in our country.

As reported in the Partnership for a Drug Free America’s annual tracking study:

* 1 in 5 teens has abused a prescription (Rx) pain medication
* 1 in 5 report abusing prescription stimulants and tranquilizers
* 1 in 10 has abused cough medication

Many teens think these drugs are safe because they have legitimate uses, but taking them without a prescription to get high or “self-medicate” can be as dangerous – and addictive – as using street narcotics and other illicit drugs.

The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is making sure that parents, young adults and teens know the very real risks of misusing medicine.

This section brings together in-depth information on Rx abuse, including a new brochure (in English and Spanish), helpful articles, detailed drug information, the latest research on usage, relevant articles from the New York Times (see story) and other publications, video and personal stories. All of this is in addition to the Partnership’s messages on TV, radio and in newspapers and magazines. See Dr. Drew’s new product to prevent drug abuse called RX Locker.
